📜 The Toddler Scroll of Sympathomimetics — Bodyland’s Brave Signal Messengers

📜 The Toddler Scroll of Sympathomimetics

“The brave helpers who send messages in Bodyland to make hearts beat faster and lungs open wide!”

🌿 Prologue: What are Sympathomimetics?

In Bodyland, Sympathomimetics are special helpers who copy the messages of the sympathetic nervous system.
They tell Bodyland’s parts to get ready for action—like when you feel excited or need to run fast.

🏛️ The Courtroom of Bodyland: The Helpers and Their Jobs

1. Albuterol, salmeterol, terbutaline

These helpers tell the lungs to open wide so air can flow in easily.
Albuterol helps when someone has acute asthma or COPD.
Salmeterol works for long-term asthma.
Terbutaline helps with sudden tight lungs (bronchospasm) and to stop early labour (tocolysis).

2. Dobutamine

This helper works mostly on the heart to make it beat stronger when it’s tired (heart failure) or in a bad state called cardiogenic shock.
It makes the heart pump faster and harder (inotropic and chronotropic effects).

3. Dopamine

Dopamine helps the heart beat steady and strong when it’s very weak or in shock.
At low amounts, it helps the heart and blood flow; at high amounts, it tightens blood vessels (vasoconstriction).

4. Epinephrine

This brave helper fights severe allergic reactions called anaphylaxis, helps open airways in asthma, and works on the eye for glaucoma.
It works on many parts of Bodyland, making the heart and lungs act fast.

5. Fenoldopam

This helper opens blood vessels after surgery to lower high blood pressure (hypertension) and helps the kidneys make more pee (natriuresis), but can sometimes make the heart beat too fast (tachycardia).

6. Isoproterenol

This helper helps when the heart beats too slow or irregularly (tachyarrhythmias), but can sometimes make the heart hurt from working too hard (ischemia).

7. Midodrine

This helper tells blood vessels to squeeze tight (alpha-1 action) to stop the body from feeling dizzy when standing up (postural hypotension), but it can sometimes make lying down blood pressure too high.

8. Mirabegron

This helper tells the bladder to relax so you don’t have to pee so often (overactive bladder).

9. Norepinephrine

This strong helper tightens blood vessels (alpha-1 and alpha-2 actions) to raise blood pressure when it gets dangerously low (hypotension) or during septic shock.

10. Phenylephrine

This helper tightens blood vessels to raise blood pressure and is used for eye procedures (ocular procedures) and to clear nose stuffiness.

These Sympathomimetic helpers keep Bodyland ready for action by making hearts pump faster, lungs breathe easier, and blood flow just right!
