πΏ Prologue
In Bodylandβs nerve neighborhoods, communication happens with little bursting bubbles filled with talkative messengers. These bubbles pop and whisper messages to nearby cells.
We will visit two towns: the Cholinergic Town (where ACh lives) and Noradrenergic Town (where NE lives).
π‘ Cholinergic Town β Where ACh Talks
In Chatterville, the chief talker is ACh (Acetylcholine). First, a tiny workshop mixes Choline and Acetyl-CoA using a friendly builder called ChAT. This makes ACh.
The ACh is packed into bubbles and waits for Calcium gates (CaΒ²βΊ) to open. When calcium rushes in, the ACh bubbles run to the edge and pop β sending ACh across the road (synapse).
ACh finds a receptor chair and sits down, giving the next cell its message. After that, a cleaner called AChE (Acetylcholinesterase) comes to sweep ACh away.
If someone (like Botulinum) blocks the calcium gate, ACh bubbles canβt pop β silence! And if you block AChE, the message gets stuck β ACh keeps shouting.
π¦ Noradrenergic Town β Where NE Runs the Show
In Nervia, a building turns Tyrosine into DOPA, then into Dopamine, and finally into the star talker NE (Norepinephrine).
NE gets packed into secret bubbles with help from VMAT. When Calcium gates open, NE jumps out to talk across the road to Ξ± or Ξ² receptors.
But Nervia is smart. It has a helper called NET that sucks NE back in when itβs done β like a vacuum cleaner. This is called Reuptake.
If Reserpine blocks VMAT, NE canβt pack its bags. If Cocaine or TCAs block NET, NE canβt come back β it keeps shouting!
Amphetamines are cheeky. They sneak inside, hijack the bubble train, and force NE out β more talking, more excitement in Bodyland!
βοΈ Courtroom Example
In Bodylandβs Courthouse, the judge (Ξ±β receptor) listens to NE and says: βToo much talking! Calm down!β This is called negative feedback. It helps stop NE from making too much noise.
