📜 The Scroll of Complement C9 — The Final Blade of Bodyland

Completing the Tunnel of the Membrane Attack Complex (MAC)

🌿 Prologue

In the final moments of the Bodyland defense, when C5b, C6, C7, and C8 had done their work, the wall of the invader still stood — pierced, but not broken. The defenders whispered, “Call the Finisher…”

And from the deep chambers, C9 arrived — not just one, but many copies, each holding a piece of the final weapon. They came, one by one, and together they formed the mighty pore that burst the wall open.

🔁 What Does C9 Do?

C9 is the **last warrior** of the **MAC team**. When it sees C5b-8 on the enemy, it begins to **assemble more of itself** — building a circle like a straw — a tube that goes through the enemy wall.

Water rushes in. The invader can’t survive. C9 finishes what the others began.

🛠️ MAC Tunnel Team Recap

  • 🔹 C5b: Calls the team
  • 🔹 C6: Builds the early base
  • 🔹 C7: Leads them to the enemy and sticks on
  • 🔹 C8: Begins the piercing
  • 🔹 C9: Builds the full tunnel and ends the invader

📚 A Battle Remembered

In the Veil Marshlands of Bodyland, a Neisserian invader had escaped many attacks. The scouts were tired. The wall had a crack — but not enough. The arrival of C9 changed everything. One by one, the rings clicked in. Suddenly — the flood poured in. The invader burst. Peace returned.

🧠 Scrollkeeper Notes

  • ⚙️ C9 polymerizes (copies itself) to form the MAC pore
  • 💥 Creates a full hole — causing lysis (cell bursting)
  • 🦠 Without C9, MAC is weak — especially in fighting Neisseria bacteria
  • 🧬 Deficiencies in C9 = repeated meningococcal infections

🎯 In Clinical Realms

C9 isn’t often measured directly — but its **deficiency is suspected** when a person has **frequent Neisseria infections** (like meningitis or gonorrhea) despite normal immunity. Genetic testing or functional MAC testing may confirm.

🕯️ Epilogue

The wall was thick. The enemy was proud. But a circle of light — made by nine copies of C9 — brought it down. Sometimes, it’s not the first who wins the war… but the last who completes it.

“Each ring alone is weak.
But together, they open the flood.”
